چکیده

This paper presents a methodology for shape analysis of anatomical structures. A template shape is used as a unit, and a shape transformation mapping the template to a particular structure is used to quantify the shape of the structure with respect to the template. The geometric characteristics of the boundaries of the template and the individual structure are used to define point correspondences between the template and the structure. These correspondences are then used to determine the shape transformation, which is based on an elastic adaptation of the template. Regional inter-subject and inter-population shape differences are then identified by comparing the corresponding shape transformations point-wise. Validation using simulation experiments is also presented. q 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Knowledge of the position and orientation of 3D planes that exist in a scene is very important for many machine vision-based tasks, such as navigation, self-localization and docking. In this paper we propose two iterative methods for robustly computing the plane parameters out of given image sequences. Both methods include the (limited) ability to determine unknown parameters of the 3D-camera m...

Gabor wavelet networks for efficient head pose estimation

In this paper we first introduce the Gabor Wavelet Network (GWN) as a model-based approach for effective and efficient object representation. GWNs combine the advantages of the continuous wavelet transform with RBF networks. They have additional advantages such as invariance to some degree with respect to affine deformations. The use of Gabor filters enables the coding of geometrical and textur...

Tracking human faces in infrared video

Detecting and tracking face regions in image sequences has applications to important problems such as face recognition, human-computer interaction, and video surveillance. Visible sensors have inherent limitations in solving this task, such as the need for sufficient and specific lighting conditions, as well as sensitivity to variations in skin color. Thermal infrared (IR) imaging sensors image...

Wavelet packet analysis for face recognition

Content-based indexing methods are of great interest for image and video retrieval in audio-visual archives, such as in the Esprit project DiVAN that we are currently developing. Detecting and recognizing human faces automatically in video data provide users with powerful tools for performing queries. In this article, a new scheme for face recognition using a wavelet packet decomposition is pre...
